The Hershey Bears revealed a big player signing on Friday morning as the clubre-signed veteran forward Matt Moulson to an AHL deal for the 2020-21 season. Moulson returns after ranking second on the Bears in points with 41 and leading the team in goals with 22 and power play markers with 11 in a highly successful first season with the Bears in 2019-20. Moulson was one of just two players to dress in all 62 games for the team in the shortened season.

2019-20 was a very successful season for Moulson (read our Player Profile series entry for much more) that saw the 36 year-old skate in his 1,000th professional game on January 24 in Springfield, where he scored two goals in a win for Hershey and participated in the 2020 AHL All-Star Classic in Ontario, California as a captain for the Atlantic Division. Moulson as well as his teammate in Ontario with the Reign in Phil Maillet combined to be the top two scorers this season for the Bears.

The writing was on the wall for this signing when the season was canceled. Speaking to the media via Zoom, Moulson said he likely would have retired after 2019-20 had the Bears gone on a lengthy playoff run. Moulson said he’d love to return, “if they’d have me. An unbelievable place to play,” leaving the signing up to Hershey to make. Safe to say everyone is looking forward to seeing Moulson don the Chocolate and White for another season in 2020-21!
